Passive Damage
So what would be passive damage? This is the harm caused onto others by the aspects in life that are not being done. Rather this is a thorough explanation, a proper education or understanding of a situation, being unaware of what is heard and what is meant, etc. I’ll provide a few news stories and personal examples which can shed some light on what may happen and what we don’t see when we take our stances in life.
A local officer from where I live was shot and the news has been quite supportive of his passing away. Apparently some bank robbers were pulled over and just shot to kill before the officer stood a chance to even know what was going on. While all due respect to all those who serve and protect our freedom, there was a point made to me about why don’t we treat every murder that happens on the same level of an officer being shot? The average Joe off the street would not have such treatment. This is something I don’t think the media or the law enforcement agency realizes when allowing the amount of time to go by with what does get reported. My condolences to the lost of this good officer. I don’t envy the justice department due to the huge weight it does pull, but very thankful for how it does exist. Still, here is one example of a collateral passive damage that probably would not have been even considered if you didn’t witness or hear of it. Why not treat every murder that does happen on the same level an officer killed does happen?
Another easy personal example I can give is the whole understanding of what it means to be 18 and over for our human sexuality world. I’ve seen enough looks on faces and the hate that just fumes through when it comes to hearing the stories or just the mentioning of any child being assaulted on any level sexually. It is so easy to tear into adults so much that we practically make them wish to be nothing but dead. Does anyone realize there are also a lot of juvenile sex offenders out there as well? Whenever anyone talks about sex and the youth of our world, this always hits the high level of controversy. As I pointed out in earlier blogs, the youth are not going to be exempt from knowing or learning about sex. It will apply to them. The age of 18 may be a good measuring stick for some laws, but what we don’t realize is the comprehension of what these laws mean. Just examine the tone of voice in any 10 stories or news reports given on this subject, then compare that to any 10 commercials where they are for adult purposes of some sort. We got the adult ads sounding very pleasant and enjoyable where the news reports sound like welcome to modern day excommunication from society and demonic hatred.
To wrap up this upper paragraph, this is also where we border on protecting the youth and possible crossing lines of just using the youth to fuel personal hatred and bordering on conspiracy. I believe we just allow sex to be something it has no business being, and the results of that have run away from at least the control of those who demand sex to be nothing but taboo and forbidden. Hopefully one of these days we will all learn to stop using human sexuality to oppress, on both sides of the coin. This is the molestation and abuse side (everything that is a crime or should be a crime done to other people) vs. the side of being oppressive and uncaring about other people’s levels of human sexuality.
I don’t think there is ever an easy way to talk about human sexuality and the youth of this world. I think a good start would be attacking the constant paranoia people do form when it comes to this subject. All sorts of passive damage will come from this. The most common will be disagreeing sex should always be 100% no questions asked abusive just because someone has yet to see 18 years of age on this planet yet. This is at least to me how this comes across. This is also why I say replace fear and paranoia with focus, education, and determination. I got one last example to give.
This dawn on me when I went out to one of my new favorite hang outs both Friday and yesterday. The Friday evening to be honest stunk. The atmosphere was quite awful, despite my best efforts to keeping it positive, and overall lost out on any attention which would have at least made the evening not so bad. Yesterday was a much better evening and it helped redeemed the day before for me. But it was that atmosphere that made me realize how our uncaring nature to the world immediately around us can be quite harmful, hurtful, and damaging. Rather people are just that depressed, boring, drunk in some cases, not realizing they are welcome to talk or to just say hello, etc. A similar example would be being at a dance and you got that one person off to the side or corner who is very detached from everyone else having fun. This wasn’t quite just all me, probably quite a few people not enjoying them also. Did not stop the self inflicting hurt from setting in though.
This is where you, me, or anyone, takes the time out to just say hello to those around you. If they talk fine, if not, at least you tired. For me, this is also where I keep in touch with my friends, even to just say hi. Keep tabs going to see how people are doing? Plus having the will power to be there for others in their own time of need. Our world just isn’t as natural of a world anymore, due to too many aspects in life to be on top of. We forget the simplest of common courtesy to offer others that will keep their day bright. All your simplest mannerisms with please, thank you, and your welcome. Holding the door open for someone. Anything that shows being polite. All good common traits to be holding on to being lost in the chaos of our modern times. And yes, there is plenty of passive damage that goes on from the lack of being nice to others.
Remember to be thankful for what you do have in life and stop attacking what we don’t have in life. The subtle evils going on in life will disappear when they realize that the good powers aren’t worth even trying to attack anymore and they will fail. So while being mindful to yourself and others, don’t forget to be mindful to your mothers on this Mother’s day as well.
